Just cruising around when i saw your question.

I got to test drive a cable modem a couple of weeks back. Cox @Home.
It will be to my area sometime later this year. I can wait, but just barely. I think a bunch of sites are cached locally as some are really super fast. Video and sound like I've never seen.

I made sure to check out how SI would perform (it was a Saturday afternoon so the usual SI server delays were not a factor.)
And we used that as a gauge of "real" internet access. Man it was quick. Click next and you're looking at it.

Cox limits to 1000 users per node which should give close to apparent T-1 speeds most of the time. $30 per month if you're already a cable subscriber. You buy your own modem.

Hope there's some hope for Kansas.
