Someone else has got to come out with something which is cheap, and sucks less than MSFT. For now, in the consumer market i would say MSFT rules in part because they "suck less."

I'm not happy with Windows, but it's better than a Mac, in my opinion. OS/2 could have been something but I think IBM dropped the ball there. Be may be the next big thing but I have questions as to who really owns Be.

If Sun had wanted volume they should have catered to the low end. Now they're getting hit in the mid-range... even there Sun should have used economies of scale to pre-empt the MSFT assault.

As overpriced as I think MSFT's stuff is, they seem to understand economies of scale better than most, if not all of the other major players.
