Looking at the high speed of many corporate users, can you say that they are using
video on any level of significance? I don't think so.

The problem with most corporate users is that their networks are still shared ethernet, with 12-200 people in the same collision domain. Video to the desktop will not happen until the cable plant is upgraded to switched ethernet. The cost of doing that was prohibitive before this year though. Even though it is now cost effective, most large companies need to spread the upgrade expense over several years. (And all the IT budget is going to solve the Y2K problem anyway.)

The main thing that will drive greater disk usage this year and next are digital cameras and better connections to the net. This is both for at home and at work. Analog data is going digital and that means it is moving off of paper onto disks, hopefully Segate disks.

I guess my main problem with the statement that 2 gig is sufficient for the business worker (mentioned in a previous posting) is my 15 years of experience as a system administrator/manager. Every year I budgeted to double the amount of storage available in the computer facility and every year we would run out of space. Give people more diskspace and they will fill it.

Sid (who needs at least another five gig)
