I can see your point, and a stop at 64 is prudent. I disagree with your assertion that there will be competition in 1999. In my position at work, I see a lot of what's going on in the memory, storage, and computer markets. I really do not see anything else out there for many years. Only DDR SDRAMS. But this is evolutionary technology, not revolutionary like Rambus.

RAMBUS is a great technology. I'll explain it sometime on the RMBS thread. It's absolutely required, since memory is WAY behind CPU technology. The amazing thing is that in most applications, the CPU is idle 90% of the time waiting for memory accesses. Breakthroughs are needed here....
