I saw a report issued by Merrill Lynch on the tobacco industry and Y2k compliance. It seems that Big Mo "expects to spend $400-500 million to complete" the process of upgrading its systems. The report says that the costs are not expected to hurt earnings. That's a whole lotta money to fix the Y2k problem. It seems to me that an outlay that large will have some effect on earnings. Anyone notice if the annual report specified any costs associated to Y2k yet? I don't have mine with me.
