Dale,

Yes. I thought about it later and i think you are right. Intel needs the support of the many hardware, firmware and software developers, and they will only get that support if they allow others a piece of the pie. Kind of like MSFT. MSFT takes the center cut, but still leaves thousands of other software companies something

Yeah, that just the way it goes.. otherwise you have a bunch of segmented pieces of the market. Market segmentation might work for AMD as well as Intel if they team up with Compaq like they are doing.. This isn't a one way street.. but it would be bad for the indsutry as a whole..

When was the last time I proprietary product was introduced that _really_ succeeded.. I have to go back to mainframes.. that's a long way back..

Yes. There seems to be a serious disconnect between Intel/MSFT. I think MSFT was adamant that Windows CE be open to many chip suppliers.
Just look how long it has taken Intel to support it. MSFT doesn't like to be dependent on any other company.

And they are smart.. unfortunately while Microsoft can write software for any chip, it is much harder for Intel to get software companies to support them in a "fragmented" and "confused" market place.

My MSFT stock continues to soar. In fact half of my holdings in MSFT and amazingly I never bother to post on the MSFT thread.

This doesn't surprise me.. MSFT just keeps on rolling with VERY few worries..
