Stiff,

one of the reason we need all this DRAM is MSFT. They keep loading up what could be simple OS with tons of garbage the $Bill insists the consumer wants.

It is widely reported that W98 will be the last and $Bill is going to ram NT down every consumer's throat, even though most may not need it. This NT5 is supposed to be the next kind-of killer app. Not being a technoid myself, I have no idea how that is going to improve my life.

How much juice is NT going to demand? Is MSFT going to be successful in forcing every sub $1000 PC purchaser (probably sub $500 by the time NT is released) to spend $300 for an OS? This is the only thing I see that can boost DRAM demand. Global PC market is growing at around 15% (if I remember the last IDC report correctly). What is going to be the stimulus for MASSIVE fab investments again so AMAT can reach $100 by year end.
