Some people at my company took a field trip to an employee's "dream machine" to look at the current state-of-art in gaming. We saw Unreal and QuakeII on a VoodooII 12 MB using Gateway PII-333(?+) and nice sound system.

I'm not a gamer .. probably played about 1 hour my entire life on the standard twitch games (but I used to be an avid netrek player [multiuser 2D internet game with 16 people in game]). I know a fair deal about 3D computer graphics, and my socks were knocked off by Unreal on a VoodooII. 5 years ago you know that 3D graphics will be getting much better but it still is amazing to see it with your own eyes. Of course, it's also clear they have mastered lots of tricks to get realism at the cost of complete flexibility in the modelling. But still, when this kind of graphics trickles down to everyone, the games are going to get sooo good ...

p.s. I was kind of surprised Unreal took so long to load in new levels until I read the article that was posted on this thread.
