Michael, something fishy is going on with a company such as AMZN when the float can't be tied down. The float is simply the total shares minus the shares locked up with insiders and not subject to trading. The insider positions must be reported periodically. Any uncertainty as to the status of the insider shares is probably a nice way of saying that the insiders are dumping but we won't tell you until the next reporting period.
