Great article. A bit scary in its implications. Basically, it appears as if these guys from the land of water have once again brought the world to the brink of something major. Clearly, they will not emerge the winners from what appears to be incredibly flawed economic, psychological and social systems. The question is WHO will be the winners or whether there will be any for the forseeable future. And, of course, the problems never seem so transparent until it becomes an incredibly large crisis. No wonder the government over there and over here does not want to talk much about the problem. If too many people really u nderstood the magnitude of the problems there would be panic in the streets(and in particular the banks over there). I am sure by the time this crisis gets going on a social scale in Japan there will be many bank runs and lots of panic. And that panic will find its way to other countries other than just Indonesia. As ridiculous as it sounds, looks like the Japanese may cause the beginning of World War III through providing the catalyst for such massive economic disequilibrium and imbalances the likes of which the existing world economic infrastructure is incapable of absorbing. Or was it the Chinese devaluation in 1994 which will seen to be the origin of all this mess? Its the chicken and egg routine. China devalued in order to compete against what must have been cheap Asian goods being sold at levels less than the cost of production.
