Frank, Ian
Thanks for the in depth and thoughtful replies to my post. This will be very interesting to see in the long run how much of what is said now is just pipe dreams and what is real. I have the sinking feeling that T (Armstrong) just felt that they (he) had to do something big no mater what it was, so this was it.
Thanks again Ernie

I agree smart people will always be concerned over lifeline phone or any other basic service or need. In my case I have ISDN and use it with two numbers however I do keep my 3rd line as a POTS.

However since our family now has 4 wireless phones the issue of the POTS line availability under any reasonable circumstance is probably moot for us and likely a high percentage of others, especially the target group that AT & T / TCI would want to reach?

Packaging @ Home cable internet access, wireless, LD and local phone service with the still powerful AT & T brand name may be used to bring other cable systems outside TCI areas under the marketing umbrella of AT & T Consumer Services . They should also be working hard to expand the AT & T Wireless brand nationally with marketing agreements as they have a real window of opportunity with their new One Rate Plan which people love.

Lastly I received a direct mail piece from our local phone company TDS Telephone asking to switch us to T and promoting the 10 cents/minute plan. Previously when I requested this the company would not allow this plan for dial 1 service now promoting it.
