Well, think of it like this. Qwest is laying the best fiber network around. NOBODY will undercut them on price. And the world is going digital, huge amounts of data(all the things AT&T wants to do with TCI's outmoded co-ax cable, etc.) And there is this: All major players in the new telecom world have to worry about a little behemoth called MCIWorldcom. Now if you were a big guy wanting to be bigger and go head to head with Bernie Ebbers, might not you want to buy QWEST?
I would. I just hope they don't sell us too cheap. I've seen $50/share and to me that seems measley. Try $80, maybe.

British Telecom is the likely rumor. BTY will get around $9 billion in cash from WCOM when the MCI merger closes.
