MB Trading, Castle, etc. are the top of the line, and it seems like a must for frequent daytraders. If you are a position trader, where you make say a few trades a week, then DBC and Datek, or WebSt. or Etrade will probably be fine. (I have had DBC for real time quotes and I like it a lot. I haven't used Level II. So I pay about $100 a month for quotes, and $9.95 per trade with ok executions and fast confirmations(DATEK).)

I think jawd and funk and Eric make a good point about needing the high end system as the trading frequency goes up and holding time of the trade goes down.
