Oreo the Hamster escaped from his 10 gallon tank quarters in the office on Friday, sometime after 11 pm est. All local areas were searched thoroughly. Found some dust, but no hamster. There was a slim possibility he had squeezed under the door to freedom, but freedom held the dangers of two cats and a rat terrier. ( The latter is referred to as the chicken dog, so Oreo didnt really have to worry about canine teeth around his neck, just feline teeth, sharp, young, feline teeth. (I tried to ram the other hamster under the door but decided that his little head could not fit under the door in one piece.) By Saturday PM the warden, me, was beginning to worry that the escaped hamster would start suffering from dehydration and panic attacks. The warden was beginning to suffer panic attacks as well imagining how I was going to explain a very dead hamster to a very attached little girl. Saturday, 5pm est. Upon arriving from an emergency eyeglass repair trip, I noticed two cats sitting in the laundry room starring at the washing machine. Since neither one of them does laundry, I deduced that the escaped hamster might be in hiding under the aforementioned washing machine. I was right. After straining my back moving the laundry machinery, the escaped brown and white hamster with the chewed right ear was found!! He got a kitchen sink shower and was placed in maximum security. He drank a lot of water and went to sleep unaware that he had just escaped the fangs of death. BTW, the fangs of death are sitting on office chairs staring at the hamsters as I write this post. I wonder if Disney could do something with this story? Colleen, relieved in Orlando.
