GM, I believe write precomp is an analog function. The main digital functions of the channel (the Viterbi detector, the path memory, and the encoder/decoder) won't very easily be taken on by a processor core. However, I noticed the press release mentioned that ARM is wanting to add DSP capability to their processor. This could possibly be used to do the filtering function of the channel. Some companies do filtering for the channel in digital and some in analog. G.P.
