"wild enthusiasm" for the group among retail investors.

I keep hearing this explanation as well as short covering for the double in price over the last 3 weeks. I don't think that is the main thing happening. How does wild enthusiasm explain the instantaneous jump out of nowhere for the stock on June 8th?

I still believe the stock (as well as Yhoo and others) is in play by a big trading house. Retail enthusiasm has been critical to the strategy, but not the deciding factor. The retail enthusiasm is being played.
