re: Does anyone know if AMD issued any warnings for the first qtr before
they announced the actual numbers?

Expectations were very low.
No one expected them to make any money.
The news that came out was positive, But many analysts are in a show me mode on AMD since they have disapointed or failed to deliver if you will for so long.

RE: <did AMD issue profit warning prior to 1Q earnings?> Yes, they issued a warning (once or twice), then said they wouldn't say anything more until the earnings were announced. At the Q1 conference call, they gave guidance that breakeven was about 700M in sales, they expected sales of 2 to 2.5 K6-s in 2nd quarter, they expected K6-2 to ship before end of quarter, they expected to return to profitability in the 2nd half. Also, they thought they would sell at least 12M K6's in 1998.
