Your problem is very simple Mark. You would like enlightenment of the heart withut accepting Jeus as your Lord and Saviour but it cannot and will not happen. There is no salvation and enlightenment outside of Jesus. Jesus is the only road to truth and life. I was once in your shoes. You consider words brilliant and work dilligently to achieve the serenity and peace you see in Christians. You are a very bright character and have achieved a degree of false serenity and false peace that impresses the eyes of the world but they do not impress the eyes of the Spirit of God that lives in his people. Your efforts are transparent to real Christians. You can easily win the applause of heretics and pagans because real Christian are not in competition for the applause of men. The only thing that will win you the applause of God is repentance of your sins and acceptance of Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Jesus will give you genuine peace and serenity of the heart. When you drink of this water you will no longer thirst for the applause of men.
