lisa, I am a US history buff, but I really haven't followed the radical ideas of some Texans. Actually, Texas history is probably my greatest area of ignorance in the general area of US History...But let me tell you, I absolutely love Early American history...I just eat it up. Perhaps it is in part that my parents also had an interest when I was young, therefore I've visited as a young'en quite a few historic places in America..from restored Pony Express stations and Western forts, to the birthplaces of such notables as author Mark Twain (real name Samuel Langhorne Clemens) and the house of "Little Men", "Little Women", and "Joe's Boys" author Louisa May Alcot. I've tramped over the famous "North Bridge" near Lexington-Concord, been inside the church that hung the "one if by land, two if by sea" lantern in its bell tower. I've visited Gettysburg battlefield, also "Custer's Last Stand" battle of Little Bighorn, in which the only American survivor was the horse of a US soldier...yah I love it all..don't even get me started honey, ....-GGG- ..that encyclopedia article you linked to was describing a very chaotic time in American history...the borders and ownership claims West of the 13 colonies were still in a state of flux,. with French, English, and Spanish holding claims..as you know we bought the huge "Louisiana Purchase" from France..Fort Detroit was first a French Fort, then captured by the British... Here's a nice link, with a very nice melody playing on it too, worth a look just for that:"British Forts in North America of the French & Indian War Period The 18th Century Society" members.aol.com Here's a nice link I got from the previously linked page"Fort Detroit and Chief Pontiac: Chief Pontiac's siege of Detroit" detroitnews.com
