The SCADA systems are designed to report failures in the water (and other) systems. Areas where water is unsafe to drink is normally water that is not treated, or has been contaminated, not a lack of SCADA.

SCADA provides more efficiencies in the operation of the water systems as well as a means of collecting and recording data for historical purposes. It can insure that the water systems and treatment process is functioning correctly, and provide alarms to indicate that a failure has occurred or if the condition of the water drop below acceptable quality standards, or delivery capacity.
