O/49r: National Identity Card: This reads like some Sci Fi Orwellian story. We have glimpsed the future through this scheme. Government total control through ID cards and computer chips. Maybe even reminiscent of the 666 Biblical prophecy?

Governments world over have one great task.....to govern. And, they need control. The days of individualism, and personal freedom are long past. Sadly to say this is more true in America than anywhere else. A country based on Freedom has steadily been giving it up, bit by bit in the names of National Security, or Equal (Human) Rights, Anti-discrimination, etc. Hard to imagine that a Democratic Country could pass restrictive laws against the ownership of Gold, for example.

The thrust of laws today are in favour of conformity and inclusiveness. Individualism and setting oneself apart from the crowd is frowned upon. A national identity card goes a long way to root out any originality that might exist. Ideas are easier to control when people are marked, numbered and grouped. You are right to shudder.

I see you'd been reading up on the MARC card since I sent that webpage to you. It amuses me what your government thinks up.

PS: In Canada, we call ours the Care Card.

Interesting quote..............

"It is a sobering fact that the prominence of central banks in this century has coincided with a general tendency towards more inflation, not less. By and large, if the overriding objective is price stability, we did better with the nineteenth-century gold standard and passive central banks, with currency boards, or even with 'free banking'."ÿ
