It's true that there is a larger difference in the peaks than would be liked. On the issue of time span, well I'm curious about that. In Pring's book there is an example of a double top that spans 5 months--although it is the DJIA and perhaps indexes are different from individual stocks.
It is also possible that the gap is an exhaustion gap.

A couple weeks ago I simplified my default template and, of the two indicators I keep, one was RSI. I had read the article you are referring to and, after staring at the RSI, decided to study it more. It's looking effective to me. Not sure about his entry point though.
Missed the earlier article on the RSI variations and will look that over.
