Well, I don't live in Georgia, but our baseball team here is also called the Braves and we do the Tomahawk Chop too, and some have complained about it....and you know what? I DO NOT CARE!!!! I'm going to do it anyway, because it's fun, and I like it, and anybody who wants to be fool enough to think that it puts down Indians is probably an old fogie to begin with. And I like Indians. The first way I learned how to handle a horse was from an Indian. Exchange breaths with the horse....be gentle with the horse, and communicate with the horse. Much better than the old cowboy way of jumping on the poor terrified horse and letting him try to buck you off. Now THAT is stupid!!!! I trained my horse the Indian way....which by the way, is now everyone's way who has any sense around horses. But anyway, back to my story.....I trained my horse the Indian way....and when it came time to mount her the first time, I had quite an audience around me. I told them...watch....I will get on her and she will just stand there quietly. And she did. No big deal. But the people who were used to a horse bucking and acting up the first time were amazed. Everything I have ever done with my horse has been with her permission. First you build up the trust...and the trust has to be both ways. I have to trust her....she has to trust me. If everyone could train a horse from ground zero, I think that there would not be as great a need for psychiatrists. I don't know...there is something about it that is very good for one's mental health. Maybe it's the knowing that this animal CAN kill you and yet knowing the thrill of becoming the "herd leader" and knowing that this 1000 lb animal will look to you for instructions on what to do.
