** OFF TOPIC **

Paul,

<when you make a CD copy from a music CD, do you generate a direct Digital-to -Digital copy WITHOUT going from a Digital-Analog-Digital reconversion?>

Yup, that's the really neat thing. It maps directly, bit by bit producing an exact copy. The source drive must support DAE (digital audio extraction). Most modern CD-ROM's drives do. If you plan on going directly from the CD-ROM to the CD-R it is critical that the source be SCSI. You can also use the CD-R as both the source and target if you have 650 meg of hard space available (650 meg = 74 minutes). This is an excellent relatively new application for PC's....cheap media, great quality, excellent versatility, and fast reproduction (at 4x you can make get 74 minutes of music copied in around 20 minutes).

If you want to make a CD from an analog source (such as LP's or cassettes) then of course you do have to go through your sound card and do a DAD conversion. For this application, the quality of the reproduction will depend on several things including the quality of your sound card.
