OT, I find the RealName "ads" that pop-up at the top of every Alta Vista search to be REAL annoying.

No matter what you enter for a search term, Alta Vista comes back with this little blurb urging you to register a "real name" for the search term.

REAL dumb.

If Alta Vista had the smarts to determine that what you entered was a name of some sort, I might be impressed and favorabily disposed toward Real Name. Never mind that it's Alta Vista's technology, not Real Name's that's firing the ad at me. The point is, it reflects on them to use technology in a dumb way.

The other problem with this is that 99% of the people entering search terms are LOOKING for the company, product, etc. I consider it insulting for them to waste MY time and bandwidth to reach that 1%.

(I still use Alta Vista anyway, because they seem to have the greatest depth of any of the search engines.)
