I think that some people in this discussion misunderstand a little bit the process of fixing the price. I work for a company that went public last year here in Venezuela.We had to agree with the final price. Our adviser worked with us in setting the price of the IPO We wanted the stock to go up at the IPO(it did!)because later we might want to go back and sell more stock. Well, as oil prices dropped the whole stock market collapsed and we are at 50% of the IPO price(0.6 book). Inktomi shareholders sold only 11%, they probably wanted to be sure that it woudl go up significantly to have happy shareholders for future offerings.
