Tip, I see what you are talking about even in the investment business. I got a call from a headhunter last night looking for a portfolio manager for a "high net worth individuals" investment management firm. He wanted to know about my "skills" and rattled off a number of programs and techniques it was desirable for this portfolio manager to possess. Silly crap like Advent and Barra Modelling, etc. I mentioned that I had made the Forbes Honor Roll, that I had managed a fund that was the highest yielding fund in the country, that I was a rainmaker with a fantastic record in raising assets, that my partnership money was kicking butt and taking names later, etc. I didn't want the job and I wouldn't have gone if there had been an interview, but I egged him on because I couldn't believe that anyone would rather hire somebody who could do busy work and CYA junk when he could hire somebody, me or any other real portfolio manager, who had actually outperformed in the past and made money for 100s of 1000s of folks. <G>

Oh, well, I guess I am glad I am rich, dumb and happy. I may be the guy who cannot be "dumbed down." Once you scrape bottom... <G>
