Maverick - Re: " A PR300 Cyrix chip, therefore, should offer roughly the application performance of a 300MHz Intel processor, much faster than its CPU performance in MIPS shows. "

Let's see now.

The Cyirx MII-300 , a PR300 rating, has a performance of 80% of a Genuine Intel Pentium II.

That should compute to a PR = 0.80*300 = 240, or a PR240.

The MII-300 runs at 233 Mhz, approximately 240 Mhz.

So whi is Cyrix trying to bamboozle?

A Cyrix MII-300, with a PR 300 rating, runs at 233 MHz with 240 MHz performance!

No wonder Cyrix is killing Intel!

Thanks for the article!

Paul

Mavs, those articles are already old. 300 chips are now the LOW-end. Intel will be selling 300-450 Celeron and PIIs in 2H98 at very low prices. How will AMD keep up???? I bet they can't. Expect a serious cut-back in production and costs, and AMD looking for a suitor. I bet you Jerry bails out before the humiliation of going around on his knees with his tail between his legs begging for someone to bail out AMD <ggg> Jerry was very foolish to try and take-on Intel by increasing volumes and this will become apparent VERY SOON. <ggg>
