Susan,

Corporate repurchase shares and then reissues them as stock options. Its common practice at many of the high techs. Its funny how many of the companies repurchasing their shares have a continuous growing number of shares outstanding.

To add to the liquidity, 401K plans that invest in the company stock along with ESOPs also add to the mix. That example was pointed out to me here on this thread.
