While I agree with you, I know many people who don't. I know a number of people who felt that Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead were simply tales of greedy, self-absorbed people...good stories, lousy allegory (not my view).
Also, the fact that Ayn Rand wrote them tends to taint a number of people's views about these books. Without knowing a thing about her belief structure, most people simply view her as self-interested and money-loving...
It is silly, but it is true.
