Jim, I know MLIN and have mixed feelings. First, the company is a nice little firm that is not especially touty and fairly well-managed. However, they are in a horrible business, competing against a lot of other larger and better known firms such as Maxim, Linear Tech, Analog, etc. The business sucks right now and the eps were down 70% year to year last quarter. The fact that they have earnings at all is encouraging, but the business is not turning yet.

This is one you could buy if you are willing to wait 5 years for a decent return. When the chip market comes back, I think the stock will do well from a $4 price level. Your friend may have heard hints about a takeover or something of that sort, which should be done above this price. But excepting that, I don't see the networkers, in general, getting strong enough to boost these shares for a while.
