Government to expand automatic approval list for
foreign direct investment; prune list of sectors under
compulsory licensing

The government is going to expand the automatic approval list for
foreign direct investment (FDI) which would include roads, ports,
airports in the infrastructure areas and high-technology areas like
biotechnology, industry minister Sikander Bakht told Business
Standard in an exclusive interview Monday.

The government is also examining a proposal to make the quantum
of investments a key criteria for automatic approval - the higher
the investment, more the chance of falling under the automatic
approval list.
