><>...Hi Gregory, hope you don't mind my responding to your post..><> You said of the passages in John 8: 35-59 that.. It strikes me as a little anti-Jewish . Then you have surely missed the message of Jesus especially in these passage. Go back if you will to v.33, they told Jesus, "We be Abraham's seed and were never in bondage to any man... This statement of their's was very telling. Even the Jews today still speak of being in bondage in Egypt for over 400 yrs. How could they say on one hand that they be Abrahams seed and then announce that they were never in bondage. That is absurd. If they were never in bondage then they were not Jews. Now notice in v.38 Christ speaking ..."with my F ather", notice the capital F, now notice when Jesus refers to their father ... Also notice in v.39; "If ye were Abraham's children"....and then again in v.42: if God were your Father...Sounds as though Christ has pronounced that they were neither. And then finally in v.44 Jesus lays it on them.."Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murder from the beginning". A murderer from the beginning? As in the beginning? ________________ ________________ Consider also what Jesus said about those who say they are Jews but are not , and are of the synagogue of satan. Rev 2:9 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Consider also the parable of the tares. Matt 13:38 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; Study all of it and you will know who Jesus was speaking of in that parable, and you will also know who Jesus was speaking to in John 8:31-47. Remenber all the sayings of Paul also on this very same issue? Note too the book of Esther wherin it was written; Esth 8:17 17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them. Enough for now, thank you Gregory for you consideration. And may God bless you as you study His word. Have a good evening Shalom...><> DLL I hope you don't mind me answering this post also.
