You are 100% correct, they owe me nothing, however it is already public information, and being a reputable company, what do they have to loose by telling the truth and confirming the "public" news story? By "blowing" me off, instead of just saying I'm sorry it is our company policy not to comment, etc., but instead say someone will call you back, or nobody knows anything, or everyone is on vacation call back next week, raises questions concerning the audit.
