In general, it's tough to short beaten down quality companies at the bottom. You might make a bit, but the fast pickings on the short side are already gone. For example, MU is a great short in the 30's and terrible in the low 20's. It always bounces.

I don't know EMKR but check the chart. Is it already near an historical bottom where it has shown resistance before? If so, your odds of a good profit are minimal.

I shorted TAVA yesterday at the close. Better prospects with a high flyer which lacks visible means of support.
