<<<So what's your latest view of Japan. Are we turning the corner, or have we got more pain to go?

......i have been quietly buying MBK and SNE over the last few weeks. got in SNE below 80 and MBK below 10, but am continuing to add. japan is now about 5% of my porfolio.

......i think that they have finally felt the pain and will make slow orderly changes.

....i expect bank bill to be complete in the next few weeks based on RTC formula.

....i expect permanent tax cuts within 6 months--or at least rescinding the tax increases levied last year.

.....this will not be a blast off but a slow rise with backing and filling--don't forget a lot of japanese companies will get killed with earnings as the asian crisis impacts their earnings. this will weaken sentiment as deregulation increases sentiment.

....dereg of financial sector is going very smoothly as US firms rush in and establish beach heads--dereg of telecom happens next spring.

.....i will be SLOWLY buying the best japanese blue chips over the next 6 months--esp SNE and MBK.

..how about you?
