First of all, the design of the Autobahn vis-a-vis those of roads in the US has NOTHING to do with the discussion. The point is that speed and the common good are two distinct items which are not tied together.
Secondly, your point of the race car driver ASSUMES that they would like to go fast on roads. I would venture a guess that since they are experts at their craft, they recognize the inherent dangers of doing so on a regular road.
Third, you are correct about portions of the Autobahn having distinct speed limits. I don't think that, as a matter of course, Libertarians have a problem with speed limits per se...of course, we all see the absurdity of allowing people to careen around NYC at 75 mph (though it would clear the traffic problem). Speed limits on OPEN ROADS (Interstates, etc) ARE clearly an infringement on individual rights.
The point on NYC has little to do with common good, however. It has more to do with individual rights AGAIN. To go 75mph down Broadway at 1PM infringes pedestrian rights, and the rights of drivers using cross streets.
As for the design of a door having a knob - how is that the common good? That is practicality of design. I actually have several doors at home WITHOUT knobs. They are sliders. I have one that has a handle, and another that swings two ways (no knobs at all)....ALL are based on practical design - NOT the common good.
I want a definition of the common good. If it is common, then it must have a definition, because EVERYONE must recognize it when they see it. That makes it definable.
