Well here is another press release issued today. This certainly looks good as well: HEARx Awarded Accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations - JCAHO WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--July 1, 1998--HEARx Ltd. (AMEX:EAR), Paul A. Brown, M.D., chairman of the board, announced today that HEARx, the largest network of company-owned hearing care centers, has become the first and only hearing care provider to receive accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Dr. Brown stated that "This accreditation should certainly enhance our ability to obtain additional contracts from healthcare providers throughout the country." The Joint Commission was formed in 1951, and is dedicated to improving the quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation. For HEARx, the accreditation process was conducted by physicians and managed healthcare experts and involved intensive on-site and off-site evaluations of these locations. To achieve accreditation, HEARx was required to meet standards addressing the rights and responsibilities of persons enrolled in the network; organization ethics; providing a continuum of care; educating and communicating with enrollees; leadership; human resources; management of information; and improving network performance. This accreditation is effective for three years from June 2, 1998. Accreditation is a voluntary process where the Joint Commission conducts intensive on-site evaluations of the multi-faceted services offered by the healthcare provider, then assesses whether the healthcare organization complies with national standards. HEARx, with the largest network of audio-vestibular rehabilitative centers in the $2 billion field of hearing services, operates 75 company-owned centers in Connecticut, Florida, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The company provides hearing care to patients whose health insurance and managed care organizations have contracted with HEARx and to an increasing extent, to the "self-pay" patients who are unaffiliated with those organizations.
