Naz spreads....tell me about it!!
My theory is that no matter what...the old boyz will rule.
Instead of the 1/4 they use to get...now they get ya for 3/16!!
Its their home court if ya know what I mean, no matter what the rules are.

BTW..Fred got his ass handed to him on his BRCM short several days ago. I still think it's a good short once it gets over this TCI/T deal. Hey maybe it will be 90 by then....even better.

Sony to Launch Sales of New DVD-ROM Discman
June 30, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Sony Corp. released its new PBD-D50 portable DVD-ROM Discman player, which can be powered by batteries.
The new player (See chart ) can be connected to portable computers via a PC card. It also can be connected to ordinary TV sets. Users will be able to enjoy watching DVD video software when they are away from home. The PBD-D50 is to be priced at 90,000 yen (US$640).

When the player is connected to a PC, DVD data can be downloaded from the player at 1,350KB per second, while CD-ROM data can be downloaded at either 8x speed (when using the AC adapter to power the player) or 4x speed (when using batteries). The type of disk formats that can be used with the player are DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, CD-R, multi-session photo CD, CD extra, electronic books, video CD and music CD.

A special PC connection kit (PBDKIT-PC1W), which is required if a user wants to connect the player to a PC, is available for an additional 14,000 yen (US$100). The kit comprises an integrated PC card (Type II)/SCSI cable, along with all the necessary installation software (on a 3.5-in. floppy disk drive). It is compatible with all Windows 95 machines.

The player itself functions as both a DVD and CD player. It is equipped with an internal MPEG2 decoder.

Maya and Fred: Cube's fundamentals are, I admit, much much stronger than at this time last year. Last year on June 30, Cube closed at $20, after giving an earnings warning 5 weeks earlier. Earnings have come in better than expected the last few quarters, yet the stock has gone nowhere and hit new lows! Why? There is a lot of FEAR on the part of investors. Everyone knows that Cube is the Industry Leader Right NOW and has the best engineers in their field. Moreover, their increase in R&D spending is commendable. But who knows if Cube can MAINTAIN that leadership!
The Question of Devaluation of the Chinese currency is no longer an issue for me. Slick, in my opinion, is right now in China, selling his soul ( if he ever had one ) to prevent a devaluation. The Chinese have decided instead to lower interest rates to meet growth expectations. The question of devaluation is now moot. Slick will do whatever is necessary to prevent it from happening. The details are now being worked out face to face.
To compare Cube with MO on any level is ludicrous. Cube is not in the tobacco, beer or food business, where earnings are steady and consistent and disappointments " rare ". MO pays a nice fat dividend and they have pricing power, in contrast to Cube. MO is a proven growth story; Cube hasn't proved a friggin thing yet! Excuse me, Cube let a company like ESST muscle into their market and take away market share. Cube reminds me of a whiz kid with a lot of potential, but without a lot of practical business smarts. BIG MO knows how to play hardball and when they play, they WIN! MO is a wise warrior; Cube is a smart kid.
Nontheless, Cube is cheap at these levels. It bounced off its 50 day moving average yesterday at 19.25. I bought yesterday at $18.75 because the touching of that price meant that an intermediate term bottom had been reached at $15.5625. Cube may just base out in the 18-19 range for a few days. It will then move higher. Technically, Cube tells you which direction she is going. The Summer is Cube Time. So fasten your seat belts. I think we may be challenging last summers high. I will tell you this now, months in advance: If Cube does not take out last summers high of $35 decisively, she will hit new lows again later this year.
