Dr. Engel:

<<However, I'm beginning to suspect that AMD still has yield problems delivering K6-2's the HP while "withdrawing" them from the distributors.>>

From what I have heard this is not the case at all. Nevertheless we shall know at the Q2 CC.

<<That could explain the failure of AMD's stock to rally (10:36 PDT) on this good news.>>

Investors are getting tired of AMD announcements. They want to see AMD making money before they start to invest in AMD. "Show me the money", investors shouted. Looks like Q2 will be another dog quarter for AMD. This is the reason why AMD is not moving.

Signing with big Tier 1 like HP is very important for AMD. This just open another channel for them to release the K6-2 chips to the consumers. HP, IBM, Acer, CPQ, CTX, and Polywell should be sufficient to absorb 5M K6-2 AMD is expected to make in Q3. By year end there should be 10million users demanding 3DNow products. Katmai will have a hard time cracking into the 3D market in 1999. If AMD survives another 6 months Intel Katmai will be in serious trouble. If I were you I wouldn't underestimate the AMD Mili Vanili.

BTW: QuakeII patch with 3DNow is releasing today. This patch will bring the K6-2-300 to the level of PII-400.
