Gary,

<Is there an agenda here???>

Of course he has an agenda. He works for Cisco and every time he talks about Ascend it has that Cisco spin. Gary, I agree with you 100%. Other Gary, is there a hidden agenda? Or are you just Chamber's mercenary?

Cheers,

Steve

Gar,

I'm long ASND but I'm a realist. I'm just tempering some of the exhuberance on the thread and defending pot shots at my core holding - CSCO.

As for your comments about ATM and RAC - I agree that ASND is winning the lions share of this market. However, we really can't see how much business CSCO is doing in these markets since they don't break out these sales. I do know that Cisco has made great strides in the RAC and RAS business but from what I hear they are taking share away from all the bit players. ASND, COMS, and CSCO are all growing market share in this space. As for ATM, CSCO has just stepped back up to the table so it's hard to say what will happen in this space. My concern is that this is ASND's bread and butter (thank god for the CSCC purchase) and even though they are a smaller percentage of my portfolio I fear that a poor showing in any quarter will knock us back down to the 30's....eeeesh!

As for my comparison of the numbers... I was just taking someone elses percentages and applying a bit of math. These are not my numbers - go back and review the posts.

Gary, again my concern is that ASND is narrowly positioned in a market where consolidation is quickly taking place. LU, NT, and CSCO appear to be emerging as the dominant players. I suspect LU or even a company like Siemens, or Alcatel might snap up ASND - but if that doesn't happen I think ASND is in for the fight of it's life. Many folks here seem to believe that it's Cisco that is on the ropes. I agree that Cisco has some significant challenges in front of them, but I believe (right or wrong) that as a company, they are better positioned to take advantage of the continuing migration to multiservice nets. Just my opinion of course. I appreciate yours. ;)
