Well, its an interesting discussion. However, I dont even believe in "public" police. or "public" roads.
Now (in my ideal world, which wont happen considering what is happening is more more more authoritarianism and statistism) I want private roads. (And if neighborhoods want to band together and hire security guards thats ok too.) If the owners of the private roads are concerned about people weaving on their roads they could do many things.
I havent thought it through enough to know them all because I'm busy with a life too.
But some things might be:
when someone causes an accident more than once or twice in a predetermined period, charge them extra for using the road, or only allow them to use the road at certain periods when there are not many drivers there, or give them lower speeds, or not allow them to use the road. How would this be enforced? Dont know, but certainly money to the govt or jail time would not be a "punishment" that a private person could do to another. Should people or property be damaged those so damaged would of course sue.
I am not held hostage on the highway when someone is driving drunk. 1. I dont have to drive at all if I feel that way. Your son had no choice about being taken.
2. I can get the statistics about this and drive when it is least likely to happen.
3. I can observe drivers around me and get off the road if I feel danger and take another road.
4. Probably I wont even KNOW most of the drunk or drugged driving ones which proves my point that driving drunk is not the problem causing damage is the problem.
Anyway I'm done with this.
On to another discussion.
I will ask my LP "mentor" however about the threat issue as that interests me, since I dont believe a threat is violence, I'll see what he says and get back to the thread if there is some new idea to post.
