I always think of "proprietary" and "meeting industry standard XXX" as being somewhat mutually exclusive. If it's proprietary, you need to use that equipment all over the network, whereas if it meets the standard you can use it is compatible with an existing network. I don't think of "proprietary" as meaning that your company built it, that is not the normal useage. Whatever.
