Rotten luck
USA Tooday

RODANTHE, N.C. - A fishing ship that ran aground with a cargo of
tons of fish finally was towed free, but not before the fish rotted into a
smelly, worthless and possibly explosive mixture. While the 165-foot
Shear Water was stuck, curiosity seekers were ordered to stay at least
300 feet away because of fears that 600 tons of rotting menhaden could
create explosive methane gas. When the 15 crew members left the ship
they shut down the electrical equipment - including storage coolers. The
oily fish, about 7 inches long, move in schools so large they turn the water
dark and can be spotted from airplanes. Barney White, a spokesman for
the vessel's owner, Omega Products of Houston, said the mush will be
taken offshore and dumped.

Not your imagination...just something fishy about it...

NEW TOP AT TECHNET
San Francisco Chronicle - Tuesday, June 30, 1998

As anticipated here a couple of weeks ago, Reed Hastings will be
named president of Technology Network today.

Hastings authored an initiative that would have expanded the number
of charter schools in California.

The proposal was heartily embraced by TechNet officials, who succeeded
in getting the charter school expansion adopted by the Legislature.

Hastings has more in common with TechNet than an interest in charter
schools -- he was founder of Pure Software, which was purchased in
1997 by Rational Software for $750 million.

Despite the huge dollars, Hastings says he would have preferred to
keep running his company.

Hastings replaces Gary Fazzino, the Palo Alto city councilman and
Hewlett-Packard government affairs manager who ran TechNet on an
interim basis for its first year.

TECHNEWT: House Speaker Newt Gingrich will make a quick run
through Silicon Valley tomorrow, holding a series of meetings with
officials from the aforementioned TechNet at 3Com -- the company in
Santa Clara, not the ballpark at Candlestick Point.

Joining Gingrich will be Representative Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., recently
named chairman of Gingrich's new High Technology Working Group.
