Now HERE is the way it should be done. If your business is doing OK in such a negative environment and you have the most visible analyst in the industry saying things are going to get even worse and your stock falls with everyone elses, what do you do....

a) Through your hands up and say "there is nothing we can do" then wait for the conference call and try to clarify the situation, but continue to be lumped in with the pc sector until then...

b) Announce preliminary results early in an attempt to separate yourself from the commodity companies of the world who will likely report poor results before you get a chance to speak.

I like the choice MCHP made, they are up 12% in afterhours....This is a nice example of how companies with a committment to their shareholders, play the game...I hope LSI is watching and learning.

from briefing.com..

Microchip Technology (MCHP) 26 1/8 -1 13/16: manufacturer of programmable 8-bit microcontrollers projecting better-than-expected Q1 results; sees Q1 net sales rising 7% sequentially and exceeding analysts' expectations; projects a 19% improvement in Q1 EPS over the Q4 level. Based on Q4 earnings of $0.26 a share, MCHP will make $0.31 a share for Q1, in the process topping the First Call mean of $0.27 a share

Moonray,

He may have to wait a little bit longer for SOX's demise. Take a look. We've got the original break of the neckline (support), followed by the first pullback and test of that old support (now resistance), followed by a second test and successful break of that resistance (so now support again! <g>) and now a test of that "renewed" support today....... which could lead to a poss recovery. We may even get a decent rally here, since that was a good deal of work done. I'd prefer to see better R/S, but that's about it.

Well, I guess we'll just see what happens now.
