Traction is a really, really important concept during sex, Duncan. Cooking is very different. Substituting catsup in my Sunday breakfast recipe would have produced tasteless pink eggs with tortilla strips. Yuck!!!!! My daughter would have refused to eat more than a bite, and my husband would wonder aloud about whether gainful employment might provide more of a contribution to our family than my cooking skills do.

Anyway, I see you have admitted that catsup is a CONDIMENT, not a vegetable!! I still believe a logical case could be made for salsa being a full-fledged, albeit small, serving of mixed vegetables.

I am not sure what to say of my experiment with Green Giant vegetarian ground "beef" granules made from soy. I finally made shepherd's pie out of them. My husband gobbled the dish up, and my daughter asked for seconds, which is unusual. No one asked what the meat was, so I assume that it tasted authentic enough not to arouse their suspicions. But it was a very different experience for me. Sauteeing ground beef and onions is a very sensual thing to do. The smells and tastes are wonderful. This stuff looked and acted like ground beef, and it is a very healthful product, but it had no meaty smell or taste.

In order to cook something I have to enjoy the ingredients, so I probably would not try this again. My husband and daughter love soy burgers, so I think in the future I will just keep some in the freezer and let them fry them up when they crave them, instead.
