Many are maimed and killed in car accidents, yet cars are not banned. Why therefore should we be preoccupied if viagra causes a few deaths when it might improve the quality of life of millions of men and women.

The reason is that we are fortunate to live in a society which prizes and protects the rights of the individual. There might be only one viagra death, but for that person and their loved ones it is a personal, unnecessary, and possibly overwhelming tragedy that they might have paid anything to avoid.

Those pursuing the need for careful study of this non life saving drug should be encouraged by the words of Andrei Sakharov in his 1986 Nobel Prize acceptance speech.

"An infinite number of other civilisations may exist on the preceeding and following pages of the Book of the Universe. Yet we should not minimize our sacred endeavors in this world, where, like faint glimmers in the dark, we have emerged for a moment from the dark chaos of unconscious matter, in order to fulfil the demands of reason, and to create a life worthy of ourselves and of the goals we only dimly perceive."
