Hey, the writing is on the wall. Its up to each person (both the IT professional and the investor) to read the writing and make up their own conclusions.

I will give mozek and others on this board the benefit of the doubt and offer them the opportunity to challenge my arguments with valid common-sense arguments of their own that counter my beliefs / predictions.

That is what the SI boards are all about. I welcome serious constructive debates. I use to monitor and post on the Yahoo message boards of MSFT but their is absolutely no constructive valid postings on there. I expect much better here.

So Cheryl, I hope that others that counter my opinions will respond.

Cheers all!

Toy

Hi Cheryl,

I'm fairly certain the NT unit at MSFT is turning a profit by now. Back in the days of NT 3.x the DOS/Windows unit made the money. I think Office is the biggest moneymaker but NT surely must be turning a profit by now, don't you think? I would be interested to hear if sales revenues for NT weren't covering development/marketing costs.

FWIW
Andy

Cheryl -
Even MSFT's OWN CFO has stated that NT will gain acceptance in corporate computing "very slowly and gradually...". They don't plan on any big revenue from it right away.
As I said in another post to you today, there is a big difference between the positioning of NT5 in the high end, and the revenue potential. I think they do indeed plan on big revenue from NT5, and I think they have a good chance of achieving that plan. Look at the numbers of corporate desktops running various flavors of Windows in today's market. Given that NTW more than doubles the MSFT revenue for each of those seats, it is pretty easy to project some big $$$ from NT5, even if everything you say about high-end enterprise penetration is true.
