Turboe - what is the difference between the countries you cite and the US?

I can't speak for Norway, BUT...

Switzerland : It is a requirement that males aged (???) maintain an assault weapon in their house in case of national emergency. They also have to participate in regular military training. They, in effect, never leave the Army. I'm also pretty sure (but not positive) that owning a private weapon (such as a pistol) is very difficult in Switzerland. BTW a Swiss style government would NEVER be tolerated in the US.

Israel : the country is, more or less, in a state of war. It is very common for soldiers on leave to carry their assault rifles wherever they go. gain, I believe that there are restrictions on the class of weapon allowed for private ownership.

Can you cite your references for private gun ownership
