...slow sales in China, the loss of a bid for sales at GTE, slower penetration of local Baby Bell phone operators, and local management changes which affected distributor relationships...

The last three excuses sound like they are losing to the competition and the first one sounds like a decoy.

Tip, I hope so. I made some good money on Ciena puts late last year and early this year, but this latest batch has been a loser and a half. The good news has been that I don't have many.
